Silicon Milkroundabout November 2017

news #careers

As discussed in our recent article about Code First: Girls, there’s a pretty vast talent gap in the tech world, which can make finding the right person for a job a real challenge.

When a position opens up here at DLG Digital we typically post details of the role on our careers pages and then wait for the applications to roll in.

But, this feels like a very hands-off approach. Plus, this traditional method requires talent to find us, meaning there’s likely many impressive people who don’t even know we have openings.

This is where Silicon Milkroundabout comes in. It’s a free event for tech professionals, offering easy access to a host of relevant employers. On the flip side, it also gives employers the chance to tap into a new talent pool.

The event began back in May 2011, hosted in a local pub, but now runs twice a year in London. There’s an aim to expand to additional cities worldwide.

The Silicon Milkroundabout website says: “We hold free events in the heart of the tech hub featuring the city’s most exciting and disruptive companies who come ready to hire for a wide range of engineering, product, design and marketing roles.”

And here’s a video from a recent event.

DLG Digital was a sponsor at the November 2017 event, held at the Old Truman Brewery, Brick Lane.

Our digital operations manager Chloë Hayward was part of the crew who headed into East London on the lookout for future colleagues.

“Towards the end of 2017, we decided to look at sponsoring some events. When we found out about Silicon Milkroundabout we immediately saw it as a great recruitment opportunity. The event was free to attend, allowing us to meet loads of people with a range of different experiences.”

After two days chatting all things digital, it’s fair to say we left knowing the event had been a great success.

“We got hundreds of CVs and details of people interested in future roles at DLG, which was awesome,” said Chloë. “We’re now reviewing all of these and sharing current opportunities. We’ll also be keeping details on file for future opportunities.”

For those thinking about attending, the next event takes place 19 and 20 May 2018 at the Old Truman Brewery. You can get your applications in now, and be sure to say hello to DLG Digital. At the recent event we gave away two Amazon Echo Dots, so it’s well worth your time.

Who knows? You could be working alongside us next year.
